Hi, I’m LUCY DAN, and this week:
my new dill plant died. i cannot tell if it died of too much sun, too little sun, too much water, or too little water, but it definitely just shrivelled up and died.1
we are switching from scrapbook prompts to time capsule moments! more on that enclosed

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature
There’s this running joke in computer science that pitches errors that emerge as part of design. This reframe has been a gamechanger for me; I’ve learned to take what seemed like flaws in the wrong environment into features in the right environment.
My biggest struggle with writing a newsletter, or anything for that matter, is just how outdated some of these ideas become. I began a slow consumption habit, whether with buying preloved clothes but also taking reading and podcast listening slowly. We place such a heavy emphasis on pieces that have freshly come out that writers became ashamed that their stats weren’t “good enough” for the first 24 hours, as if pieces can only exist for 2 seconds before they dissipate forever and die out.
That shouldn’t be the case! It takes creatives DAYS to WEEKS to even MONTHS AND YEARS to put some things together; they deserve more than the 15 minutes of fame.
So, I’m pitching my slow-to-create-and-share bug as a feature with the TIME CAPSULE PROJECT. Every week, this newsletter will morph into a time capsule for things I wanted to share weeks ago, even months ago, maybe even years ago. This is especially true for art that I think deserves seeing even months or years after it was created.
