I could see myself spending considerable time on this platform from now on 👻
How quickly Substack earned my brand loyalty
Substack has an archive button. In fact, there’s a keyboard shortcut for it, which perfectly matches how my brain works. I need to be able to “dismiss” old notifications so that I don’t have to scroll through 12837129381273 of the same things I’ve already seen to get to the next new thing. It saves me time. I love it.
Restacking. My first social media as a teen was Tumblr. For those who are less aware of its existence, it started out as a micro-blogging site, not unlike Twitter, but had more blog-like features while allowing for “reblogs” where more information is added. Restacking directly mimics this feature (albeit not to the extent that Tumblr does). I get to highlight and reshare my favourite quotes within a piece towards Substack Notes. which brings me to…
Substack Notes. The introduction of Substack Notes married two of my favourite things together! I used to (I guess I still do) write on Medium and share things to Twitter, so that I could share my favourites with my community. Substack allows both long reads (which used to be shared on Medium) and my short reads (Twitter) to be integrated into one function. This is some powerful magic, guys. I’m hooked. I used to say that I’m caught in the mainframe of Twitter and when I die, my ghost will go on to Tweet from within. Perhaps now it will reside in the Substack Notes. 👀
Thank you, thank you, thank you for allowing me in your inbox, whether email or Substack. Looking forward to capturing more of my favourites from across the internet and sharing them in one newsletter. Supporting artists and writers all in one go! I can’t wait :)
[We’ll be resuming regular scheduled weekly time capsule reveal tomorrow! Just got emotional grill and wanted to share how much I’ve been loving the experience here.]
Great post! You summed up some of the many things I also appreciate about Substack.
